PORCHOKR 2023

Porchrokr took the neighborhood of Highland Square by storm. The festival takes place every year in Akron, Ohio, taking over an entire block and using the neighboorhoods porches as stages (hence the name). It features local artists from the area, requires participation from the people of the neighborhood for the stages, and features local vendors. It’s truly a community effort, and it bolsters the local businesses that border it. Concertgoers came from all over the area to participate, walking up and down the streets to check out what bands were playing at the houses. Food vendors and booths from local business could be found along the way. Each hour over a dozen acts were performing. It was impossible to catch everyone, but it was also impossible to walk anywhere without finding an amazing performance. It’s a great way to discover local musicians. I got to catch sets from local bands, You Suck Flying Circus, The Labra Brothers, The Liquid W’s, Lady Lyre, Funeral Proposals, and many others in passing. The evening was ended off by Detention, who drew the biggest crowd of the day to the main stage. It seemed as though the majority of attendees made their way to the stage. They had a packed audience and many people moshing, crowd surfing, and head banging through the set. It was a great way to end the evening. Photos and Story by Emma Fischer | Edited by Jordyn Ward
