THE CRANE WIVES TAKE OVER THE INTERSECTION
Friday night at The Intersection in Grand Rapids MI, The Crane Wives put on an electric hometown release show for a sold out crowd. It was clear from the fans of all ages lined up long before doors that this band’s release of the album Beyond Beyond Beyond was being met with enthusiasm and a lot of support.
Opening for them were two acts: first, Cal In Red, Grand Rapids-based brothers who set the atmosphere with songs like “Kitchen” (from their recent album release, Low Low) that felt like deep green leaves rustled by a late summer breeze. The sense of community was palpable as partway through they brought on guitarist Steve Leaf, whom they have worked alongside as part of The Crane Wives’ crew over the years. Following them up was Patty PerShayla, who started her set with a bang and performed an engaging mix of old and new songs (“Real Problems”), some of which will be on an upcoming album release. Her energy and interaction made for a head-banging experience that the crowd clearly enjoyed.
Finally, The Crane Wives put on a super engaging show consisting of tracks from their new album Beyond Beyond Beyond and also some of their older discography. It was clearly a well thought-out show meant to reach the many different fans that they have earned over the years- from the livestream for fans who couldn’t get live tickets, to the ASL Interpreter Abbey Moreland performing alongside them, to the childish joy of giant black balloons being tossed around the audience. From “Scars” to the 7/4 “Predator” their new album is fresh yet clearly keeps their core sound that their fans have grown to love.
